Argyle’s wonderful win against Wycombe on Tuesday has put the Greens within touching distance of the League Two play-off places.

In fact, John Sheridan’s team are only kept out of the top seven on goal difference after pulling level on points with Southend United.
The Greens now face the last 11 games of the season, 11 cup finals!

Argyle’s run of five wins from the last seven games have propelled them to the brink of the end of season jamboree, teams such as Southend and Oxford, who have occupied the top seven for most of the season, are nervously faltering leaving the back door open for the Greens to nick a play-off spot.
It remains to be seen if we’ve peaked too early or just warming up to grab an automatic promotion berth!

After the defeat against Bristol Rovers last Saturday it appeared that the Green play-off roller coaster had come off the rails but it’s the sign of a good team that the players regrouped and went out and beat Wycombe. Let’s not forget the Chairboys themselves had been on a good run of form, they were unbeaten in their last six games which included wins over Chesterfield and Hartlepool and credible draws with Southend and Fleetwood.

The win against Wycombe put the Pilgrims onto the magical 51 point total, a target that is usually enough to avoid relegation. After fighting against the drop each season for the last six years it’s a relief to everyone connected to the Pilgrims that we are safe with 11 games to go.

With the threat of Conference football dismissed thoughts and energies will turn to promotion, yes promotion! A weird concept to the Green Army.

How will it pan out?

Over the last eight games since the end of January we’ve pulled back 11 points on Southend, six on Oxford, two on Burton, six on Fleetwood, four on Scunthorpe and Chesterfield and we have a game in hand on all of those teams.

At the end of January there was a huge seven point gap between 7th and 8th place, it’s Plymouth Argyle who have closed that gap to bring it down to just goal difference.
Most of the teams that occupied the play-off places were struggling but had the cushion of that gap until our run of 15 points from 21 put us firmly in the mix.

Argyle have 11 games left to play which include six games at home and five games on the road with a Home Park double-header against the top two in the league coming up this Saturday and Tuesday.
The first of the 11 cup finals begin with the visit of table toppers Scunthorpe at the weekend followed by second place Chesterfield next week. A four point haul from those two difficult games would really rubber stamp our promotion credentials and give belief to everyone wearing green.

If ever a team needed its fans it’s Argyle in the next two games, get behind John Sheridan and the team, show your support and a Wembley dream might just become a reality!
The fans and staff who fought so hard to save a grand old football club from administration in 2011 did it to once again enjoy a season finale just like this!
