491 At Pompey?

Argyle legend Paul Wotton is set to move into joint-second place on the club all-time appearance list.

The 36-year old currently has 490 Argyle appearances to his name, one game short of Sammy Black who occupies second place behind Kevin Hodges in playing the most games for the club.

Pilgrims’ boss John Sheridan has hinted that Wotton may play a part in the Dockyard Derby against Portsmouth on Saturday and will definitely be included in the 18-man match day squad although sentiment will not cloud his judgement, he told the club official website: ‘I won’t let that allow me to make sure he plays, but he will be in the 18, so he’s got a good chance.
‘It’s outstanding on his part. You don’t get many players in this day and age do that. You’re lucky when a player plays 100 games at a club before they move on. For him to do that at one club is a great achievement.’

Many fans thought Wottsie would have played against Hartlepool in the final game at Home Park last Saturday and equal Black’s record in front of the home fans but bizarrely he wasn’t even selected for the squad, a move that angered some fans.

Hopefully Sheridan will select a club legend against Pompey and allow him to move to 491, it would be harsh if that honour is not permitted.
