Argyle have signed defender Jakub Sokolik.

The 23-year old Czech Republic centre-back was released by League One side Southend United just before the transfer window opened and becomes the first confirmed signing for manager Derek Adams in January.

Sokolik started his career in 2009 as a child at the Liverpool Youth Academy, he didn’t make an appearance for the Anfield club but did have a loan spell at Southend.

After being released by Liverpool at the end of the 2013-2014 season he joined Yeovil Town on a two-year deal. He made 45 appearances over two years and also had another loan move to Southend, after Yeovil released him at the end of the 2015-2016 campaign Sokolik returned to Southend for a third time, this time signing a short-term contract, his last game for the Shrimpers was the 10th December in a home win against Coventry City.

Adams now has five centre-backs at his disposal and i’`s likely one will leave Argyle during the transfer window.

Welcome aboard the good ship Mayflower, Jakub!
