Plymouth Argyle manager John Sheridan has added another player to his squad by signing defender Anthony Charles who was released by Northampton Town.

The former Northampton Town defender Charles, who can play at left-back or centre back, will bring some experience to the Pilgrims’ defence.

Charles has twice been successful in winning promotion from the Conference with Barnet and Aldershot where he was captain and voted as Player of the Year. After recovering from a long-term knee injury he was released by Aldershot and snapped up by Northampton Town in March 2012.

The 31-year old defender, who has a reputation of being a leader on the pitch, has made 11 appearances for Northampton this season; the last was on New Years Day, however, he was released by the Cobblers earlier this week.

Charles has his Northampton contract cancelled by mutual consent earlier today enabling him to sign up with Argyle until the end of this season.

Welcome aboard the good ship Mayflower, Anthony.
