Sunday’s top of the table clash between Doncaster Rovers and Plymouth Argyle will pit two of the best League Two midfielders against each other.

Doncaster’s James Coppinger will face Argyle’s Graham Carey in the Sky live TV game at the Keepmoat stadium on Sunday.

Both players have played crucial roles for their team in the rise to the top of the league, Rovers currently occupy top spot; just six points ahead of the Greens and both midfielders have been named in the League Two Team of the Season.

How do the statistics compare for the two players?

Coppinger is the older of the two midfielders at age 36 and has only played in league games this season, making a total of 34 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing 13 goal assists.
His minutes on the pitch has been clocked at 2,829, picking up just two yellow cards and one red, which was against Argyle at Home Park in December.

Coppinger’s goals and assists and won his team 18 points in games where his contribution has affected the final result and subsequent points.

By contrast Carey, at age 27, has played more games and made more of a contribution to his team.
He has played in a total of 46 games in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and supplying 14 assists, his League Two performances show 38 games, 12 goals, 14 assists and 3,255 minutes on the pitch, picking up three yellow cards.
Interestingly, Carey has never scored or provided an assist in a game that Argyle have lost.

His goals and assists have won Argyle 27 points this season in games where his contribution has affected the final result, an incredible amount of points!

Both players have scored just three goals in 2017 with their best form coming in the early stages of the season.

Having played more games the younger Carey has the best statistics this season but who will come out on top on Sunday?
