Sheffiled managed to gain a draw after Buzsaky scored an own goal, only to be denied a win when Paul Wotton scored a second half penalty to bring Plymouth on level terms.

Sturrock said: ‘The fans were very appreciative, but a win would have been nice,’

However he was very unhappy with the penalty awarded and so were the Owls players.

‘I have got a lot of disgruntled players in there because of their thoughts on the penalty. I can’t say anything about the referee, so we’ll leave it at that. But Plymouth did have a couple of chances. They hit the post and the bar.’

Meanwhile Pulis told the official site that the penalty was right and he was disappointed not to get maximum points. ‘I am disappointed not to have won. We want to win our home games. It was a difficult game. We are fighting and scrapping, and they are fighting and scrapping, so it was never going to be a pretty game, but we are disappointed we didn’t win it.’

At least he is looking to the future and assessing what needs to be done.

‘There are lots of things we are going have to improve on if we are going to push up the league, but the one thing you can’t fault the players for is their commitment at the moment. They never stopped trying.

‘I can’t believe Nick’s header hasn’t gone in – we hit the post, the bar and we just couldn’t get a break. We needed a break because a goal would have relaxed everybody, settled everybody down, but we didn’t get it until the penalty.’
