The referee for Argyle’s League Two game against Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday is John Brooks.

The 26-year old Leicester-based official is in first year as a referee in the Football League after progressing from the National League and as a referee’s assistant in the Premier League. Brooks was an assistant referee in last season’s FA Cup final between Manchester United and Crystal Palace.

Brooks has already taken charge of an Argyle game this season; the FA Cup Second Round tie against Newport County at Home Park in December when he red-carded Newport striker Sean Rigg in the 23rd minute.

Brooks has shown 122 yellow cards and eight red cards in 26 games this season.

As a linesman he attracted controversy in 2013 when after a match against Arsenal he told the Manchester City players to go over and thank their fans for travelling to the Emirates Stadium.
Brooks will be assisted on Saturday by Ian Dudley and George Warren while the fourth official is Nicholas Cooper.
