The Mystery Of The Missing Madjo

Guy Madjo’s loan at Plymouth Argyle ended after today’s game at Exeter City.

The Aldershot striker signed for the Pilgrims’ in September, initially for one month but the loan deal was later extended.

The 28-year old returns to Aldershot after making 14 appearances for Argyle, nine starts and four substitute appearances and scoring three goals.

Madjo made a good impression during the early games of his loan spell at Home Park, the team finally had a striker who could run the channels, hold the ball up, bring other players into play, add some strength to the attack and more importantly pose a goal threat.
In fact, Madjo has been Argyle’s best striker this season and yet manager Carl Fletcher has not picked him for a match-day squad for the last three games.
He was also an unused substitute in the games against Dorchester and Bradford when Argyle were losing. The introduction of Madjo in those games might have seen Argyle remain in the FA Cup and pick-up a point or three.

Madjo’s last start was the game against Burton on 7th November and his two goals against Rochdale in October gave Argyle a win before the team went on a run of ten games before winning again.

In total Madjo has been available for 20 games (not including the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy game against his parent club) and only started in nine.

With the team on a bad run the omission of Madjo is a complete mystery.
One theory is that the loan deal agreed with Aldershot included extra payments if the striker reached a certain target and with Madjo just one game short of ten starts and one game short of a total of 15 appearances that scenario could be true.
However, Fletcher recently admitted that he didn’t select Madjo because other players were better at defending set-pieces.

It’s a little bizarre to not pick a striker because he can’t defend.

If Madjo has been injured and couldn’t play then why didn’t Fletcher say so?

Madjo seemed a popular player amongst the squad and last week was pictured visiting children in a hospital in Plymouth along with the rest of the squad.
