Wrathall Returns As Director

Former Argyle director Tony Wrathall is set to join the new board at Home Park.

Wrathall was part of the previous regime of seven directors who amassed £17 million worth of debt that sent the football club into administration in March 2011.
The situation left the staff and players without pay for 10 months and the club was only saved following the takeover by James Brent in October 2011.
Wrathall’s place in the Argyle boardroom is sure to divide opinion amongst the fans, some may be angered while others might be willing to forgive and forget. There will also be staff and players still at the club who suffered during the administration period.

Wrathall has been a lifelong passionate Argyle fan; he was a ball boy at Home Park and played for the club at youth level.
He made his fortune in holiday parks in the Devon area and sold one of his parks for £6 million in 2006.
In July 2013 he formed a new company called Sand Bay Leisure Resort Limited.

The businessman originally joined the Argyle board in 2005 and later in 2010 he joined two splinter Argyle companies set-up by then-director Keith Todd.
Home Park Venue Services Limited and Home Park Properties Limited were formed to oversee events at the stadium including rugby, concerts and the group matches for the proposed 2018 World Cup.
Home Park Properties, which also included Paul Stapleton as a director, ordered a new pitch for Home Park and after the work was completed by Inscapes the £352,000 debt was passed to the main Argyle company Plymouth Argyle Football Company Limited and was dealt with under the subsequent CVA.

Wrathall is understood to have lost around £1.5 million during Argyle’s fall from grace and authorised deals as an Argyle fan rather than a logical businessman.

Since the club entered administration in 2011 nothing has been heard from Wrathall and just like the other six directors from that time no public apology has been released from him.
He has been a regular spectator at Home Park and has been the match day sponsor for the Torquay v Argyle game at Plainmoor each season.

There are now seven directors on the Argyle board.
