Argyle Get Top Ref For Saints Game

Plymouth Argyle will have top Premier League referee Uriah Rennie officiating in the Championship clash against Southampton at Home Park on Saturday.

Rennie, now 48, has been a Premier League ref for the last ten years and reached the pinnacle of his profession in 2000 when he joined the FIFA list.

Like most top ref’s Rennie has attracted criticism from managers and players alike but has still remained in the top flight.
In 2005 in the Championship game between Preston and Crystal Palace the stadium announcer remarked on the tannoy as the teams returned to the pitch after half time: ‘Welcome to the second half of the Uriah Rennie show.’

During the summer of 2007 Rennie failed the required fitness tests due to a hamstring injury and was withdrawn from the list of referee’s. However, he returned to the list in November 2007 and has since officiated in the Premier League.
