Plymouth Argyle will have top Premier League referee Uriah Rennie officiating in the Championship clash against Southampton at Home Park on Saturday.

Rennie, now 48, has been a Premier League ref for the last ten years and reached the pinnacle of his profession in 2000 when he joined the FIFA list.

Like most top ref’s Rennie has attracted criticism from managers and players alike but has still remained in the top flight.
In 2005 in the Championship game between Preston and Crystal Palace the stadium announcer remarked on the tannoy as the teams returned to the pitch after half time: ‘Welcome to the second half of the Uriah Rennie show.’

During the summer of 2007 Rennie failed the required fitness tests due to a hamstring injury and was withdrawn from the list of referee’s. However, he returned to the list in November 2007 and has since officiated in the Premier League.

TOP REF? Uriah Rennie has featured in very few games in the prem this season and has been criticised for poor refereeing in most, but he has the experience i suppose. Also, Prem refs aren’t suited to the physical Champ. What promises to be a good game may now be ruined.

Everytime we have a Premier League ref at Home Park they spoil the game.

Perhaps if he makes a pigs of it we might get a result!

    Oh dear….
Premiership ref’s are conditioned to premier fannies diving around and pretending they are mortally wounded. I predict at least a dozen yellow cards, possibly a red and the usual ‘**** refs, we only get……..)
I still reckon we will get a result

every ref that comes here always has a mare, apart from the odd one or 2

Uriah Rennie has always been *****. We’ve not had one decent prem ref this year. As Southampton are ex-prem expect every 50:50 to go their way.

In answer to those that somhow think that a Prem ref is a bad idea. Just be reminded that those promoted from the championship will need to play in the prem.

Take Derby for example, a very physical side that are being made to look like schoolboys in the prem

More premiership refs to ref in the championship. i would suggets that thier careers should be extended 1-2 years if they want to ref in the championship
