On-loan Plymouth Argyle striker Alex MacDonald returns to Burnley after Tuesday’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy game.

The Southern Section Quarter-final match against Oxford United will be MacDonald’s last game for Argyle as his second loan spell at Home Park comes to an end.

The striker first joined Argyle from Championship club Burnley in January this year and after putting in some impressive performances his loan deal was extended until the end of the season.
In his first spell MacDonald made 18 appearances and scored four goals, helping to steer the Greens away from relegation trouble.

MacDonald returned to Argyle at the start of this season and again impressed the Green Army with his hard-working and all-action displays although it’s fair to say his second loan spell wasn’t as successful as last season’s stint at Home Park.
So far this season the 22-year old has made 16 appearances and scored one goal.

It remains to be seen if MacDonald returns to Argyle when the January transfer window opens although some of his recent tweets indicate that he misses his family and young daughter who are based up north.

Good luck Alex and thanks again!
