Since the start of the season there has been much debate about the reduction in size of the Home Park pitch but just how small is it?

Argyle manager Derek Adams has admitted the pitch has been made shorter and narrower this season but claims it’s still a good size pitch for League Two and the facts and figures available back up his point.

From the various football statistical websites the common consensus is that pitch was measuring at 114 yards long and 78 yards wide last season and has shrunk to 112 x 73 yards for this season and until the club reveal the exact official yardage it’s the only measurement currently available.

So the new Home Park pitch is almost the exact size of the average playing surface in League Two which is 111 x 73 yards.

According to the Football Ground Guide website the biggest pitch in League Two is at Leyton Orient which measures at 115 by 80 yards; Portsmouth, Yeovil Town and Wycombe Wanderers also have pitches 115 yards in length but are narrow than the one at Brisbane Road.

Crewe Alexandra have the smallest pitch in League Two, almost the size of a back garden at 100 x 66 yards which is just inside the Football Association rules which states pitches should be between 100 and 130 yards in length and 50 to 100 yards in width.

So the size of Argyle’s pitch might have been reduced but it’s still an average sized playing surface for League Two.
