Inconsistent

Will the real Plymouth Argyle please stand up!

Inconsistency is the buzz word used to describe this season with a pattern emerging of Argyle playing well in one particular game only to look a complete shambles in the next game.

Results, performances, formations, team selection and use of substitutes have been inconsistent all season.

Of the 22 league and cup games played this season not once has the same starting eleven been selected from one game to the next. Pilgrims’ manager Carl Fletcher has been hindered by injuries and suspensions but he’s also dropped players for no apparent reason; for example Andres Gurrieri and Guy Madjo have been playing well, particularly in the recent win against Rochdale, only to find themselves on the bench for Saturday’s defeat against Fleetwood.

There may be quite reasonable explanations behind some decisions; however, Fletcher has a policy of being very secretive in public and not giving anything away. This is fine when trying to outsmart an opposition manager before a game but it isn’t much good after a game when the fanbase would like to know how and why some decisions were arrived at.

The pattern so far this season has been poor results and performances, often two or three in succession, followed by a decent result and a win, except wins and good displays are now becoming harder to find.

Until team selection and team formations become more consistent the results and performances will remain inconsistent.
