Borne out of frustration most Argyle fans reacted angrily to Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Aldershot at Home Park.

After a rare normal and turmoil-free close season and buoyed by the ownership of James Brent the Green Army were looking for a good start to the season but had their optimism and hopes dashed by a crushing home defeat and stuttering performance.

It’s understandable for fans to be furious and head to the messageboards to release that anger; we’ve had four seasons of misery and we were desperate for a new, fresh and winning chapter at Home Park.

However, with the weekend now over and a chance for everyone to take stock let’s look at the bigger picture.

The defeat against Aldershot was only the first league game of the season; there are another 45 games and nine months to go so we shouldn’t judge the team and management on just one game.

After conceding the early goal against the Shots Argyle did dominate the play for the next 20 minutes and conjured up some good chances. The ball from the defence was played to feet or to the chest of the strikers and the team kept possession and moved forward.
Paul Wotton hit the post from a trademark free-kick, when on another day that would have gone in and Argyle would have entered half time on level terms.

Argyle boss Carl Fletcher was also missing injured players Rhys Griffiths and Jamie Lowry; those two could have made all the difference against Aldershot.

Argyle travel to Dagenham and Redbridge on Tuesday and an early chance to put matters right.

Let’s judge the team over the first ten games and not the first game.

Don’t panic!
