New Argyle Grandstand Update

New images of the new grandstand at Home Park have been released.

Plymouth Argyle owner James Brent has given an interview to the Plymouth Herald outlining the plans for the fantastic new stand.

The construction of the new £10m grandstand, which will not cost the football club a penny, is scheduled to start in September and should be completed by November 2014.

There have been some concerns regarding the capacity of the new grandstand but I believe the capacity is suitable for our needs until we reach the Premier League or are pushing for the PL, if we ever do. By then we’ll have the cash to do whatever we want.

Most Argyle fans will focus on just the grandstand but looking at the bigger picture Plymouth needs the whole development.
The extra seats in the grandstand that some people want will be used just 23 times a year, even then it’s doubtful that any bum will sit on them at all until a big cup game comes along or we are pushing for promotion to the Premier League.
However, the whole development will be used seven days a week and promote Plymouth as a city that offers good facilities.

It’s all big ‘ifs’ about the capacity of the grandstand – if we reach the PL, if we are at the top of the Championship – but in the here and now the club needs the grandstand and associated facilities.

We are still in debt and have received cash injections from James Brent throughout this season, the club still has historic debts to pay, we simply cannot carry on like that, we need to become sustainable and pay our own way as a football club.

This isn’t just about the grandstand; this is about bringing money into the club, estimated to be between £1m and £2m a year, from the associated facilities.

This new grandstand, at no cost to PAFC, will ensure we ‘stand’ on our own two feet as a football club while some other clubs from lower Championship down to League Two struggle financially.

Plymouth needs the development and Argyle need the grandstand.
