Former defender Gary Sawyer has returned to Argyle and signed a one-year contract.

Sawyer, 30 next week, signed professional forms at Home Park as a 17-year old in 2002 and progressed to make 96 first-team appearances including during Argyle’s stint in the Championship.

Sawyer left Argyle in 2010 and signed for Bristol Rovers following a loan spell with rivals Bristol City. He then spent three years at Leyton Orient before being released at the end of last season following relegation to League Two.

Sawyer can play at left-back or in the centre of defence and will also provide competition to Curtis Nelson in the long throw department.
