What A Week!

What a great week at Plymouth Argyle!

News has been coming thick and fast from Home Park Towers; it’s been almost non-stop with lots of discussion surrounding each newsflash.

Eight days ago we had the euphoria of avoiding relegation from League Two even though we had lost 1-0 away to Rochdale.
Other results went our way which heralded fantastic scenes at Spotland with the players celebrating with the 1,842 fans (Rochdale’s figures) who had made the 600 mile round trip.

Sunday was a quiet day and gave no indication of the barrage of news waiting to be unleashed during the week ahead.
We woke up on Monday to read on the club official website that John Sheridan had agreed in principle to remain as manager, this was fantastic news for the Green Army!

The good news kept on coming with the press release that the Earlybird deadline for discount season tickets would be extended until Saturday 4 May following Argyle’s escape from relegation.
Early indications show that season ticket sales will beat last season’s total.

Sheridan soon got to work by publishing his list of retained players and players that will not be offered new contracts.
There was mixed feelings amongst the fans with some favourites on the way out of Home Park although the general feeling was the Sheridan had selected the right players for the new season ahead.

Chesterfield gate crashed the Green news festival by revealing that Sheridan’s former right hand men, Tommy Wright and Mark Crossley, were leaving the coaching set-up at the pro-act Stadium. This led to speculation that both coaches were heading down the A38 to link up with Sheridan once again.

Sad news followed on Wednesday with the revelation that Argyle Legend Romain Larrieu will not be offered a role under the new regime and will leave Argyle.
Larrieu had spent 13 years with the Pilgrims’ as a player and assistant manager and is regarded as a gentleman and hero to all Argyle supporters.
Coach Kevin Nancekivell will also depart although he has been offered a role with the youth players.

Rumours then began to circulate that former keeper Luke McCormick could return to Argyle after being released by Oxford United.

We then reach Frantic Friday with no less than five major positive news stories to whet our appetite for the new campaign.

Firstly, new images of the proposed new grandstand were published in the Herald along with an interview with James Brent where he explained the issues behind the new grandstand.
The new CGI images were a hit with the Green Army.

It was then confirmed that Sheridan had signed a three-year contract; this was fantastic news which allows Sheridan enough time to lay down some strong foundations at PAFC and build a squad capable of promotion.

More good news followed when defender Guy Branston put pen to paper on a one-year deal to remain at Home Park. Branston was instrumental in Argyle avoiding relegation and his extended stay was welcomed by all fans.

Coach Gary Owers then signed up for next season after playing a huge role in assisting Sheridan in managing the first team.

The BBC confirmed that Luke McCormick was in talks with Argyle over a possible return to Home Park.

We then reached Saturday and the last of an incredible eight days of a torrent of news coming out of Argyle HQ.
The club denied they are in talks with McCormick; this story is expected to run and run.

The final Argyle news story was in the Herald with James Brent admitting that Neil Warnock will not be appointed as Director of Football at Argyle.
There had been some speculation that given Warnock’s strong links with Argyle he would get a Director of Football role but James Brent explained that Sheridan is an experienced manager and does not need a mentor.
Although I’m sure Warnock will continue to be a friend of the club and help out when he can.
