A point away from home and a clean sheet points to a quiet satisfaction and a steady improvement for Argyle.

It was one of those games where either side could have won with Torquay shading the first half on points but Argyle looking for the knockout blow early in the second period.

Diminutive winger Danny Stevens was the main source of concern for Argyle in the first half with Durrell Berry struggling to contain him; in fact, Berry could have done with some help from Joe Lennox.

Robbie Williams made a superb block on a shot that prevented a certain goal while Maxime Blanchard and Darren Purse were at their best to thwart Rene Howe.

Warren Feeney played the lone striker role for Argyle in a 4-1-4-1 formation and worked hard for the cause but received little support from the wide players.
Alex MacDonald was used as a left winger, a bizarre choice, while Lennox on the right wing was anonymous.

The second half was a different matter with Argyle laying siege on the Torquay goal.
With Wotton sitting deep he was able to pick his pass and set-up an attack much like a quarter-back in American football.
Torquay struggled to contain Argyle’s formation and Wotton sent Berry away but his cross just evaded the onrushing Feeney.

The Northern Ireland international had another chance soon after but Michael Poke parried his header at the expense of a corner.

The tiring Feeney was replaced by new signing Guy Madjo and Argyle`s attacking play suffered.

The Greens sat deeper and deeper and Torquay forced several corners but Cole and company held on for that vital point.

Torquay’s new grandstand looks very good and compliments a decent stadium, although today the Torquay fans were very quiet.

Argyle’s back five were in great form, especially the two full-backs, Wotton was the link player in midfield and Feeney worked hard up front.

The 4-1-4-1 formation works better away from home and it was good to see Fletcher make positive attacking subs to try and win the game.

With players returning from injury and international duty an unbeaten run could be on the cards.
