Buzsaky Set For 100

Plymouth Argyle midfielder Akos Buzsaky is set to make his 100th appearance for the Pilgrims in Saturday’s game against Stoke City.

Buzsaky played his 99th game for Argyle in Tuesday’s fine 2-0 away win at Queens Park Rangers and is set to become the first Hungarian to reach 100 appearances for Argyle with that milestone scheduled for this Saturday against Stoke.

The talented playmaker has had a stop-start career since joining Argyle in January 2005 and it’s interesting to note that nearly a third of Buzsaky’s 99 appearances have been as a substitute.

Buzsaky had been playing for FC Porto’s second string in the Portuguese third division in 2004 before former Argyle manager Bobby Williamson signed the Magyar on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The former Hungarian Under-21 captain soon became a fans favourite with some excellent midfield performances. In the last match of his loan spell fans held up home-made signs asking the Plymouth chairman Paul Stapleton to buy the midfielder.
Buzsaky was indeed snapped up on a three-year contract for a transfer fee of around £225,000.

Niggling injuries have so far prevented Buzsaky from reaching his full potential at Home Park but last season saw him earn a regular place in the team and this gave the Hungarian confidence to produce some consistent performances.

Akos is occasionally linked with a move to a Premiership club and with just one-year left on his current deal at Home Park the midfielder is entering a crossroads in his career.

It remains to be seen if Argyle boss Ian Holloway will offer Buzsaky a contract extension but if he does he will no doubt want Buzsaky to finally reach his potential in an Argyle shirt and to improve on his goal scoring with just nine goals coming from his 99 appearances.

This season has seen the Hungarian international play in every league game for Argyle and is now regularly picked for the national squad.

Are Argyle fans now finally seeing the best of Buzsaky?

It’s hard to believe that he has played so many games for Argyle.

For this season Buzsaky has really stepped up a gear. Being free from injury helps and also having two fellow Hungarians around the place has given him a boost.
    Well done for 100 appearances.

That was an awesome performance by our midfield that permitted the defence and attack to do their jobs in equal amounts, instead of the defence having to soak up constant pressure and then being blamed for more points dropped. I for one could have watched our midfIeld all night performing like that. They have set a standard which the fans are going to expect every game. If they can achieve it, then look out the rest of the division. Are we now seeing the results of Ollie’s training and tactical ability taking over. It is a pity that a shadow is hanging over us now, with the possibility of loosing someone, just hope it is not a key member of the team. Finally, we mustn’t get carried away with this result lads, just keep focussed and regard it as a stepping stone, the rewards could worth it. Come on you GREENS.

Well Done Akos! We’ve seen some class in that 100 apps, and as already mentioned, with the two hungarians joining he’s stepped up a gear – even if he is still a little frustrating at times!

Akos for England! (Well, he would work harder than certain English players. And he wouldn’t complain about being played out of position.)

Anyone got a copy of his birth certificate and some Tippex?
