Plymouth Argyle will play Spanish giants Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly, to be played in Austria.

The game will take place on Friday July 21 at the Franz Fekete Stadion in Kapfenberg, Austria. Kick off will be at 6pm.
The stadium has a capacity of 12,000 and is the home ground of Kapfenberg who play in the Austrian second division.

Several World Cup stars will be missing from the Madrid line-up, including Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Robinho, Raul and former England captain David Beckham who is injured. Nevertheless the Real Madrid team will still include a host of famous names such as Jonathan Woodgate, Thomas Gravesen, Guti and Ivan Helguera.

Real Madrid offered to play the friendly and pay for all of Plymouth`s costs of their summer tour to Austria if the Championship side agreed to move hotels.
New Real manager Fabio Capello has previously took teams to the Schloss Pichlarn training camp in Irdning in Austria but found that Plymouth had already booked the hotel.
A compromise was reached and Plymouth agreed to move to nearby Liopersdorf in return for financial re-imbursement and a prestigious friendly.

The Real Madrid friendly means that Plymouth`s scheduled game against Israeli side Maccabi Petah Tikva on Saturday 22 July has now been cancelled.

I’m not wetting my pants over this. It’s just a friendly against a reserve or youth team from a big club. All this talk of Argyle fans making the trip out to Austria to see the game is laughable. The more important game is the first game of the season in the Championship against Wolves.

Samsung, this is excellent for Plymouth, sure it won’t be their first team and GG12 sorry but it will an excellent experience for all of the players and a paid trip at that. My suggestion would be to either book the hotel out for the next ten years or buy it.

How many teams get to play Real Madrid, reserves or not? If Madrid did put all their stars out and gave you an absolute thumping, it would hardly be good for confidence. At least this the players will think they can compete and give Madrid a game
