Former Plymouth Argyle manager Paul Sturrock is playing the waiting game before jumping back on the manager merry-go-round but is hopeful of finding the right club before Christmas.

Sturrock was sacked by Sheffield Wednesday last week despite the club not being placed in the relegation zone in the Championship. Since then Sturrock’s name has been linked to a couple of clubs in Scotland.

Hibernian are without a manager and Sturrock’s former club Dundee United are struggling at the bottom of the Scottish Premier League with manager Craig Brewster coming under increasing pressure.
Sturrock is well aware his name has been linked to other clubs, he said: ‘My heart has always been at Tannadice and I hate to see them in the position they’re in. But the club would need to be in dire straits before I could come back and anyway Craig Brewster’s still the manager.
‘When I returned the last time the club were nine points adrift and I kept them up which is something I’m proud of. I still have a desire to be a big success in England but I know all about the other big job available in Edinburgh. The rumours have reached me that I’ve been linked with the post but I’ll just wait to see what transpires.’

Sturrock is also taking advice from his wife, he added: ‘My agent keeps telling me I should take the first job I’m offered but my wife is telling me to be patient.
‘I’m a great believer that if you’re offered something you should think carefully about accepting it.
‘I don’t think I’ll be out of work for long and I don’t think I’ll be able to stay away from the game until Christmas because I’d go mad.’

Sturrock has recently seen Hibs in action and thinks that with a more solid defence the team could do well, he said: ‘From what I’ve seen in the few Hibs games I’ve watched they seem to be a side who’ll win games but lose their fair share as well.
‘Their open style is always going to cost them goals and if they tightened up a bit they wouldn’t drop so many points. But they’ve a great bunch of kids holding down first-team spots and they’re still learning.’

Sturrock has also been linked to the vacation position at League Two side Swindon Town following the departure of manager Dennis Wise to Leeds United, but whatever the future holds for Sturrock some lucky club will benefit from his astute style of management.
