Thanks Fletch

Carl Fletcher may have struggled as manager of Plymouth Argyle but showed true character as a person when interviewed just minutes after his sacking on Tuesday.

Fletcher was told of his fate soon after the final whistle blew in Argyle’s 2-1 defeat away to Bristol Rovers.

Usually when a manager is sacked from a football club there is a bland statement released and the manager is gone, there are no interviews and the fans don’t see the human side of a football sacking.
However, despite just being sacked Fletcher faced the press and gave an honest and emotional interview that would have broken lesser characters.
That interview will live long in the memory of the Green Army.

Sadly Fletcher’s reign as manager of PAFC had to be brought to an end; Argyle owner James Brent and his Board of Directors should be commended for backing their man for so long against fierce criticism from the fans.
We all wanted Fletcher to be a success, as a captain he led us through the horrors of the administration process in 2011 and stood up to Lead Administrator Brendan Guilfoyle and demanded that the players and staff finally receive some wages.

When Fletch was appointed as manager Argyle were cast adrift at the bottom of the Football League with just one point from the first nine games.
Relegation looked a certainty but slowly and surely Fletch steered Argyle to safety with two games to spare.
Aged just 32 Fletcher was the second-youngest manager in the Football League and gave up his playing career to manage the Pilgrims.

This season Fletcher’s inexperience has worked against him and the team are once again stuck in a relegation dogfight.
Fletcher’s dismissal was the correct decision with the future of PAFC the most important issue, however it’s a sad and painful decision, I believe Fletcher was the right man at the wrong time and after a break from football I can see him becoming a very successful assistant manager and learning his trade in the usual way or he may even return to playing football next season.
We haven’t seen the last of Carl Fletcher.
