Plymouth Argyle will have Premier League referee Steve Bennett officiating in the game against West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday.

The game will see Paul Sturrock take control of the Pilgrims for the first time since his impending appointment as manager of Argyle.
Sturrock will be announced as the new Argyle boss later today or Tuesday.

Bennett has been a Premier League ref since 1999 and took charge of last season’s FA Cup final between Chelsea and Manchester United and has also been the man in the middle for World Cup qualifying games as well as Champions League games.

The West Brom game is expected to attract a large crowd with the homecoming of Sturrock high on the agenda for most fans, but it’s also an important game for both sides who are chasing promotion to the Premier League, with West Brom in second place in the Championship and Argyle in fourth spot.

Hopefully he’ll understand the Championship is a little more physical and not be as card happy as some of the refs that take a step down from the Prem

We’ve had major problems with these so say Premier refs, last match Rob Styles = 4 sent off – if PS is in charge he’ll quiver at this…

This is a big top of the table clash and i feel it is good for Argyle to be noticed because some of the refs that come down to Home park are diabolical! Below the prem, the refs officiate in leagues 1 and 2 as well as the champ so the quality is not good!
Good decision for a big game (but we all know it is because West Brom, a so-called “big club”, are playing

  • will it ever happen says:

Premier referee’s haven’t got a clue in the championship, they should stick to the prem.
