Former Plymouth Argyle manager Bobby Williamson has spoken of his plans for his new club Chester City and has impressed the fans with his ideas.

Williamson took over at the League Two side last week, replacing Mark Wright who left the Deva Stadium last month.

Williamson had been coaching the Scotland national B side as well as scouting for the full Scottish national team.

Williamson was at Argyle for 18-months, joining in April 2004 and led the Pilgrims to 17th in the Championship in his first full season.
A poor run of form at the start of the 2005-2006 season saw Williamson dismissed from Argyle.

In his first press conference at Chester Williamson laid out his plans and received the thumbs-up from supporters groups.
Williamson stressed that he is keen to give the clubs’ promising youth players an opportunity to push for places in his squad, as well as bringing in some proven senior players to bolster the playing personnel.

Williamson said: ‘There looks to be a good youth system in place with lots of kids coming through and I feel that’s my forte. I want to develop kids.
‘I’m very pro-youth. At every club I’ve been at it’s all been about developing talent and getting them into the first team as soon as they can make it.’

A spokesman for the Chester Supporters Trust said: ‘The appointment of Bobby Williamson signals a new era for the football club and is a breath of fresh air for the supporters.’

Chester General Manager Bob Gray revealed that Williamson was the man that the Chester board wanted, he said: ‘Everybody was 100% in agreement that he is the right man for the job and we really do feel we’ve got it right this time. He was like a breath of fresh air sweeping though the boardroom. The chairman is strongly feeling we’ve got it right for the fans. We’ve got the best man on board now.’

Williamson has promised to meet the Chester fans face-to-face in a series of fans’ forums, he said: ‘I’m prepared to go and meet or discuss anything with fans. I want to meet as many fans as possible so they get to know just how passionate I am about this football club and I know their passion will rub off on me.
‘I’m not going to please everybody, that’s for sure. People will like us, people will dislike us, but as long as I know I’m giving it my best, that’s all I can do.
‘I might not look it sometimes, but I am approachable and I’m certainly going to be there for supporters.’

Williamson plans to move down from Scotland to live in Chester with his wife Lorraine.
