Wotton Returns To Training

Long serving Plymouth Argyle skipper Paul Wotton was given a rapturous applause by his team mates as he returned back to training today in Austria.

Wotton who has been a out of action since Hull’s visit to Home Park last season, has battled through and has joined the team in Austria this week. This summer has been tough for both Wotton and Nick Chadwick, both of whom have been daily visitors to Home Park to use the gym and keep each other motivated with their recovery.

Whilst the rest of the players were taking a well earned rest this extra regime of training has obviously paid dividends for both players, Chadwick returning for pre season action and netting 2 against Liskeard and now Wotton returning to team training duties this morning.

The club physio Paul Maxwell has advised that Wotton will still need to hold back on any of the more demanding areas of the team training but the fact that he is back with the team and working on his fitness must be a massive boost for him.

The burning question for the Green Army will surely be; Can Paul Wotton return and secure his place in what has proved to be a successful team?
I have always been an admirer of his and feel his leadership on the pitch and his dedication are second to none; however I am aware that there are more skilled players about and he will have some work to do. I am also aware that there is a divide in the supporters when it comes to the opinion of Wotton, it wasn`t that long ago areas of the crowd saw it fit to boo him and were calling for him to be replaced.

Whatever has happened in the past it is obvious that there are many fans, me included who would love to see Wotton pull on that armband and lead Argyle back out on to that pitch. Wouldn`t it be great if he could be the captain that lifted three different championship trophies? Pipe dreams aside I know that all would like to see Wotton make a full recovery and lets face it with the determination that man can show on the pitch I think he knows what he needs to do to once again secure his place.

I can’t wait to see Wottsy back in action. He’s worked really hard to get fit again but it’s going to be around October when he can be considered for the first team.

We have missed his leadership on the field as well as the free kicks. Good to see him back.
