The Last Dance For Samba

Plymouth Argyle manager Ian Holloway has placed striker Cherno Samba on the transfer list.

The 21-year frontman did not travel with the rest of the Pilgrims squad to their training base in Austria and has been told by Holloway to find another club.

Samba was a free signing for Argyle in August 2006, arriving from Spanish side Cadiz CF but has struggled to gain a regular first team place at Home Park, making just two starts in 14 appearances.

In January Samba joined League Two side Wrexham in a one-month loan deal but only played in three games with two of them coming from the bench.

Holloway has several strikers at his disposal and is still in the market to add to that list, with Linfield striker Peter Thompson still a target.

Samba started his career at Millwall but never played for the first team. However, Samba showed great potential and was chased by a number of clubs including Liverpool and Manchester United with Millwall turning down a £1.5 million offer from the Merseyside club.
In 2004 Samba moved to Spain after being released by Millwall.

Samba has one-year left on his Argyle contract but has been informed by Holloway that he can leave Home Park on a free transfer.

Samba once had a great career in front of him, now he’s just a drifter. A tragic waste of talent.

Won’t forget his goal at Coventry, that was worth his 1 year contract for me

That goal was one of the good ones of the season. Not a great surprise though, with him being one of the twelve.

If he’d stayed at the Den he may have fulfilled his potential but unfortunately he thought that he was better than what he actually was….but I wish him well and hope that he can rekindle that early promise……
