Michael Foot, one of Plymouth Argyle’s greatest fans, celebrates his 94th birthday today.

Plymouth Vital would like to wish Mr Foot a very happy birthday and we hope to see you at Home Park again next season.

Not only has Mr Foot been one of Argyle’s most well known fans, he has also recently been a director at the club.
Last year Plymouth Vital was privileged to be granted a revealing interview with Mr Foot and extracts of that interview were re-produced in the Plymouth local press.

The full interview can be read by Clicking Here.

Born in Lipson Terrace in Plymouth in July 1913, Michael was educated at Wadham College in Oxford and quickly became interested in journalism and politics, standing in his first election at the age of 22.

Michael went on to become a Labour legend, becoming Labour MP for Devonport in 1945 and then eventually leader of the party in 1980. Besides his love of politics Michael also had another great interest: Plymouth Argyle Football Club, a club he has supported since childhood.

In 2001 Michael was part of a group of Argyle fans that took over the club from chairman Dan McCauley. This proved to be a golden period for the club, winning two Championships in three years and having the Home Park ground re-developed.

After a few years as an Argyle director Michael decided to stand down, along with fellow director Peter Jones. Michael is still an avid fan of Argyle and watches the games when he can and was at Home Park for the 3-1 win over Norwich City last season.

Happy birthday from all at Plymouth Vital!
