Wotton Set To Make Club History

Plymouth Argyle legend Paul Wotton will move into third place on the all-time appearance list if selected to play against Oxford United on Saturday.

The 35-year old made his 466th appearance for his home-town club in the 2-1 win against Aldershot last Saturday and will go into joint-third position if he plays on Saturday.

Keeper Fred Craig is currently in third position on the record appearance list with 467 games for Argyle having played his last game for the Greens in 1930.
Sammy Black is in second place with 491 games while Kevin Hodges holds the record for most games played for Argyle at 620.

Wotton is now in his second spell at Home Park after returning in early 2012 to help steer the Pilgrims away from relegation trouble at the bottom of League Two.

He is Argyle’s most successful captain after winning the Division Three title in 2002 and the Division Two title in 2004 and was Argyle’s top scorer for two seasons in succession following the Pilgrims’ promotion to the Championship.

The Plymothian went from strength to strength each time the club climbed into a new division, improving and adapting his game whether playing in midfield or defence.

Wotton has a reputation of possessing one of the most powerful shots in football with his penalties measuring up to 83mph.
He is also a free-kick specialist, often blasting the ball into the net from fully 30-plus yards out, indeed of his 64 goals for Argyle only two have been headers.

The midfielder is now in his 15th season at Home Park; a rare show of loyalty in todays modern game and won the coveted Player of the Season award twice, in 2003 and 2005.

History beckons on Saturday.
