Aljofree Makes Sturrock Plea

Swindon Town defender Hasney Aljofree has pleaded with manager Paul Sturrock to stay at the County Ground.

Sturrock is set for a return to Argyle on Tuesday to replace Ian Holloway who left for Leicester City last week.

It will mark an emotional return for Sturrock who had a successful stint as Argyle manager, guiding the team to the Third Division Championship and then with the team on the brink of winning promotion from Division Two he left to join Southampton in 2004.

Aljofree, the former Argyle defender who has been signed four times by Sturrock, has made a last-minute plea to keep Sturrock at Swindon, speaking to the Swindon press he said: ‘Obviously the talk at the moment is all about Paul Sturrock because of what he did at Plymouth Argyle.
‘He’s a bit of a God down there if I’m honest with you.
‘If you speak to any fan down there they would want him back because of what he did previously.
‘He got two promotions there and left the club in a good state, so who knows?
‘Hopefully he will stay with us, and despite what’s gone on behind the scenes we can do this all together.
‘I’m sure he wants to take this club forward but who knows?
‘The players have just got to get on with it. We’re here to play football for this club.
‘We can’t do anything about speculation but I want him to stay.’

Sturrock is likely to be in charge of the Pilgrims for the home game against West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday.
