Argyle Set For New Investment

Plymouth Argyle are close to appointing a new director to the Home Park boardroom.

Plymouth Vital understands that talks are well underway with the UK businessman who has amassed a £150 million fortune.

The property entrepreneur has a home in Europe but has very close links to the South West area and could bring much needed investment to Plymouth Argyle. A source in Europe has revealed to Plymouth Vital that the businessman, who we will not name just yet, is keen to get involved with the Pilgrims and talks are ongoing and should be completed very soon.

Directors Nic Warren and Damon Lenszner left the boardroom earlier this year leaving just four directors at the club in chairman Paul Stapleton, Robert Dennerly, Phill Gill and Tony Wrathall.

Stapleton recently admitted that the directors were looking to increase the size of the board, he said: ‘There is always room around the table for other people. There are commitments financially in being on the board, but it’s not a closed shop.

‘We haven’t put an advert out to say ‘Is anybody going to come to our football club and help us?’ But we do get phone calls now and again from people asking if we are interested.

‘We are not averse to looking at all avenues which will help this football club.’

Last year the Argyle board turned down a £5 million offer of investment from a consortium made up of wealthy Argyle fans. The consortium wanted seats on the board in return for the £5 million funding with the agreement that more cash might become available.

With Argyle looking for a new manager and a new wealthy director set to join the club then these are turbulent but exciting times for Argyle fans.

Fantastic news and just what we need. It’s been a great Saturday just need Sturrock to come home now.

This is the way forward. An new board member and not getting rid of the board. Stapleton and the remaining board members are astute enough not to put the future of our club in jepordy. This is definatly the way forward!

If there is a large investment coming it would be great if it is secured before a new manager, maybe the promise of capital could raise our stakes in who we look for. Plus it would be a great way to stick the V’s at Holloway.

lets hope this comes true ,not more false hopes

Rich Arab, home in Brunel? Yes please.

Is this the ray of hope we have been looking for, because recent press reports have been more truthful than the words from HP, mind you they did let Holloword do the talking. Is this unknown benefactor the final twist in a web of deception that sees stability come to the club for a genuine push onwards and upwards. May be this person is a better judge of people and didn’t trust King Liar, can’t think why, but now the situation is right. Hope I don’t wake up later today and find out I’ve been dreaming, and that Ollie is still our manager and we are not going to get that much needed injection of cash. Good night.

This is great news. Quite a few have mentioned that O££ie was pi**ed off because Stapleton was supposed to be looking for investment, but for some reason hadn’t (causing an argument around the Norwich game).

If this is true, its excellent news- not only for potential signings, but also those who are out of contract at the end of the season.

Holloway leaving looked like a dark day in our history, now it could be one of the best things to happen to us- the return of the messiah and investment. Who needs Lies?

I wonder if the club will carry on searching for new directors after this guy joins? We used to have six directors. Anyway we still need investment from groups or businesses.

  • Bitter & Twisted says:

No this is NOT great news if…… someone in the pub yesterday said it was Dan McCauley. He wasn’t joking either. The only ray of home is that this is the same chap who said Sturrock had resinged on Staurday morning.

  • Bitter & Twisted says:

    Ray of HOPE even!

  • tommytynansjockstrap says:

i’ll believe it when i see it!!

  • green giant 12 says:

mc666 wouldnt come back, stapleton wouldnt be that stupid

  • aquatic says:

McCauley? Surely not. In a minute it’s going to be like back to the future, Sturrock at the helm, McCauley on the board!!

I feel new investment is desperately needed down here considering the league position we are in. We are doing excellect already considering our financial strain but this injection of cash could perhaps help us compete with the big guns in the Championship properly and build a strong team for the Premiership!

  • gazthegreen says:

it would be a nice way to p*** holloway off!!!

  • dawks says:

Not sure if Truro would be happy about the appointment ?

  • mightytorquay says:

hopefully the club will appoint this mysterious man as a director and he is willing to bring in some of his money for the club to spend. This may seem like i am echcoing previous comments but it can only be good news for the club, unless this man is going to interfere to much in the club and try and run the club in his way. This is what the club need to try and find out about him asap.

  • will it ever happen says:

This is the kind of news we want to hear down at wednesday!! Good news for you guy’s though.
