Former Plymouth Argyle defender Elliott Ward is determined to pick-up the three points when his old club visit the Ricoh Arena this Saturday.

Paul Sturrock’s side face a difficult game against Coventry City this weekend and will come up against a player who was instrumental in saving Argyle from relegation to League One 2006.

The Pilgrims’ were struggling at the wrong end of the table in November 2005 when manager Tony Pulis brought Ward to Home Park on a three-month loan deal from West Ham United.
Ward helped Argyle keep six clean sheets and slowly the Devon-club moved away from relegation trouble to finish the season in 14th place. The big centre-back was widely credited in saving Argyle from relegation with his superb displays at the heart of the defence.

Ward moved to Coventry in the summer of 2006 in a £1 million transfer and is set to make his 100th appearance for the Sky Blues against Argyle this Saturday. However, after picking up just one point from their last three home games the 23-year old is determined that Coventry come out on top against his former club, he said: ‘We have got to make sure we are strong against Plymouth and come out of the traps early, especially at the Ricoh, because some of our better performances have been away from home. But when you are playing away the other team has got to attack you.
‘Plymouth will be very organised and a team that keep going to the end, so we have to make sure we get it right.’

The key to the result on Saturday could be the battle between Argyle striker Rory Fallon and Ward. Whoever comes out on top in that tussle should ensure their side picks up the points.
