Paul Sturrock has reportedly left Swindon Town and is about to make a dramatic return as manager of Plymouth Argyle.

The Daily Mail has reported that Sturrock left Swindon late on Friday evening and could even be in charge of the Pilgrims for their Championship clash away to Sheffield United today.

The 51-year old former Sheffield Wednesday manager guided the Pilgrims to promotion from the old Third Division in 2002 and then two years later with Argyle on the verge of winning the Division Two title, Sturrock left to join Southampton in the Premiership.

While at Home Park Sturrock struck up a close friendship with Argyle chairman Paul Stapleton and the two have kept in close contact since Sturrock left Argyle in 2004.

Sturrock was a big favourite with the Argyle fans and his appointment will be met with almost universal agreement although there are some fans who believe that the former Southampton boss is better suited to lower league management.

So we do to Swindon what Leicester did to us? Does that make Paul Sturrock any better than Ian Holloway? (If true)

Boy this is getting more frustrating by the hour – with all our problems he probably sees this as a good way out – we’ll be sorry to see him go – but hey we thought about Dennis Wise but we bounced back – people have convenient short memories – good luck with him if he does return….no points for the title of his book ‘The Judas Returns as a hero’

I’ve always seen the ‘honeypot’ of Sheff Wed as a bigger threat of PS leaving, with all due respect to PA, Sheff Wed are classed as a sleeping giant.

This is more about Stapleton and the board remaining popular than what best serves the team going forward. I rate Sturrock as the best manager Argyle have ever had ……but that was then and this is now!

Paul S did a ggod job first time around and would probably continued the good work, but that was then and this is now. Things have changed, we have no money, Hollowords spent it ,and the game has moved on. PS could not cut in both the Premiership or Championship, so will he be third time lucky or Argyle unlucky. Being the chairman’s mate is not the main thing in picking a manager, it only helps afterwards. We should be looking at someone who will take us forward, like George Burley.
